Surge protector

a hardware device similar to an extension cord, containing several power outlets for connecting any number of appliances requiring electrical current. Surge protectors are designed to absorb excess current produced by lightning or other electrical system malfunctions. It is important for a user to make sure that all outlets providing power to computer equipment are grounded and plugged into a surge protector.
